Severn Glocon has enhanced its portfolio with the opening of a dedicated Failure Analysis Laboratory in Newfoundland, Canada.

Trading as FALCON-SG, the laboratory offers advanced engineering services surrounding materials used in industrial applications. The business is headed up by Severn Glocon Atlantic Canada Director Carl Schofield. Day to day operations are managed by Senior Metallurgist Tony Semerad and Daniel Russell, Materials Technologist/Laboratory Manager.

The team draws on extensive metallurgy expertise to provide materials failure analysis, fractography and materials consulting. Additional services include mechanical properties testing, non-destructive testing and metallurgical analysis.

FALCON-SG strengthens Severn Glocon Atlantic Canada’s offering for the region’s demanding offshore oil and gas sector. It also works at an international level, providing failure investigation and solution development for all Group companies dealing with challenging industrial applications.

“When you truly understand why equipment fails, you can make more intelligent decisions to improve future performance,” says Carl Schofield. “FALCON-SG’s depth and breadth of metallurgical knowledge takes Severn’s engineering capabilities to a higher level. As well as offering world-class materials testing and failure investigation, we have an ongoing focus on commercial research and development. This means we can help operators make better choices about the materials selected for the technologies they invest in.”
